Post by krnl »

According to numbers released by Chief of Naval Personnel, there are 12,431 eligible chief petty officers that will be considered by the Fiscal Year 2014 Senior Enlisted Advancement Selection Board, which convened May 13. Across 87 ratings and rating subgroups, 1,693 quotas are available. Overall, this is an increase of 90 quotas for senior chief compared to last year.

Fifty-five ratings or rating subgroups increased their advancement opportunity from last year, while 30 decreased and two ratings remained at the same level as last year.

Among the ratings with the most opportunity this year are machinist's mate (group 3) with a 52 percent advancement opportunity, sonar technician (submarine) with a 44.83 percent opportunity, and explosive ordnance disposal with a 42.34 percent opportunity.

Three ratings had no opportunity for advancement to senior chief. They are naval aircrewman (tactical helicopter), cryptologic technician (interpretive) (group 4), and machinery repairman.
