CPO License Plate Update 19Jan2010

Postby krnl on 19 Jan 2010, 18:52

Here is an email I received from Delegate Pollard's office regarding the CPO license plate after they asked me how many prepaids we have and I replied "approximately 105"

Mr. Sandlin,
I shared with Delegate Pollard your group's status, and he asked that I convey to you that he will not be putting in a bill this year for the license plate. Having previously worked on a license plate bill for his own mother's organization (unsuccessfully the first time), he recognizes that unless you have at least 300 prepaid applications, the bill won't even make it out of subcommittee.

However, he would like to revisit the matter next September to see where you are with the numbers then so we may possibly put in legislation for next year's session. If your group is making significant progress towards obtaining the 350 minimum needed, then we should be able to get a bill passed in 2011.

Also, we have spoken with Delegate Barlow and he has agreed to co-patron the measure once we are able to go forward.

Thank you and please keep us posted of your progress.

Sincerely,
Carmen Bingham

Still pushing this!

I am looking for ideas for the plate design that's a bit more eye catching. Here is an email that I sent to the folks at NavyChief.com - in hopes that they might assist.

------
Hello,

I am working on getting a CPO license plate approved in Virginia. My current plate design is a bit "drab". Do you know of someone who can help design a graphic that is eye-catching and will make CPOs want to register? (350 registrations are required in VA before the DMV will accept the new plate design for production)

My current design is located at the following link

I could really use a hand from an artistic shipmate.

Rick I actually really like the current design. It is professional and represents the community as a whole. I am one of the chief's that has been waiting over 2 years for this to happen and it is disheartening to see we have not been able to raise the 350 prepaid registrations. BUT as a chief I will not give up and continue to tell all my chief friends about it and I am confident someday we will have this completed. Naval Aviators have a plate and I believe Navy Chief's should as well.

Jim - Thanks for your stick-to-it-ness! Keep spreading the word, Brother.

I've been told by several chiefs that the current design is too "Blah" and that maybe a catchier design would entice more people to register for the plate. I'll keep the options open, and if it comes down to a vote of some sort to choose a design out of a couple of different ones - then so be it.
