I had a hand full when they frist came out, and ended up giving them away to new shipmates. Before I knew it, I was out and didn't have one on my own car.

Thanks for thinking of all of us.

I sent out magnets today to the following people:

Sandman
mcm1210
Jerry Smith (Jerry, are you here in the forum?) Request received via email

So, when I get the next order in, I'll be sending out 8 or so more magnets to folks who have requested here.

Pretty soon, I'll have a few nice challenge coins to give away. But you'll have to compete to get one...not a free-for-all like the magnets :)

Has anyone noticed the mistake on the anchors? It's not a BIG deal, but it's significant.

While it won't detract from my enjoyment of the magnet, it is something not many people catch.

Does it have to do with the area behind the "USN"?

Oh, sorry, I almost forgot about this.

It's actually the anchor itself -- it really isn't fouled, but I see this quite a bit on CPO items. The chain should pass in front of the anchor on the left side, but most of the time it doesn't, I guess it is just easier to draw the chain completely behind the anchor, plus I've heard some say the chain passing in front detracts from the anchor's appearance. I'm definitely one of those few that prefer the chain passing in front (a true fouled anchor). This was somewhat engrained in my skull during my initiation, so it's something I always happen to notice.

I've also seen other types of mistakes, for example, the Senior Chief's star pointing up (but this is only true on MCPON's middle star).

Hey Chiefs!

How come we don't have 350 names yet? Hell, how come we don't have 1350 yet??? This license plate is so long overdo; for Pete's sake...freaking dogs, cats, and horses have their own plates! There must be about 50 out of state schools have Virginia plates! This should be a source of our pride. We can get this done. We need to reach out to our co-workers, friends, and neighbors who are chiefs, as well as the CMCs and others who can reach out to our fellow chiefs who may not be aware. And we need to make it easy for them, too. When we talk to people, we need to have the forms ready for them to take and to sign, and information about the effort. Like everything else, as chiefs we WILL get this done!

Hey, Rick!

Thanks for the magnet. It looks great on the POV!

Congratulations on going over 50 plates. We will get this done...I've got a couple of eligible co-workers I'm pulling on board. Come on Chiefs...Get your goat lockers involved, we can do this! Just remind your fellow Chiefs that the horses, butterflies, and wildflowers are all license plate "honorees". That should mobilize the troops.

Thanks again for the magnet, and for spearheading this important effort. `Keep the faith.

Rick,

Great Site!! I have talked til I am hoarse about the CPO Plate. One would figure with the CPO heritage (past and present) in Hampton Roads alone the required number of applications would be a no brainer. Perhaps those who can and elected not to have forgotten from whence they came or lack sufficient pride at what they've accomplished. Maybe they just don't get it yet. I did run into a fellow SCPO (retired) who datte dhe dod not like vanity plates or stickers on his vehicle. I told him to order it as a souvenier plate instead. May be an option for some of those fence sitters.

I like the look of the magnet. Can I purchase those in quantity (8-10)?

Had a fellow Chief who I groomed from EN2 to ENC drop by and visit. He presented me with the CPO coin from SWOS in Newport RI. It was nice to see those still doing the right thing not forget those old folks who taught them along the way. He has taken what he learned and is passing this along to his "kids" as well as baby zeros at SWOS.

Keep up the great work...Thanks ~ Jim

Hi Jim,

I know what you mean about the plate. That was my thought as well when I took over this project... surely there are enough CPO's just in the Hampton Roads/Norfolk area that 350 prepaid would be an easy goal. I didn't know at the time that this effort has been grinding along for several years and that some people have already given to it once or twice and have yet to see a plate. Those who have given - their checks were destroyed or money returned as far as I know. I would really like to make it happen this time around. I'm going to work it hard this summer and see what I can do. If you or anyone else have any ideas about how to mass communicate the idea and get it out to as many as possible, I'm all ears.

For the magnets...I get them from a guy on eBay 40 or 50 at a time. He's got a pretty good setup. His eBay username is av8rneil68. Here are a couple of links. Hit the eBay one...You can't make an online purchase directly from their store (the second link), but you can see what other magnets they have available. Pretty impressive selection.

I could not believe that I received my magnet so fast. Thank you very much. I have been a long advocate of a Chief's License Plate in Virginia but I am sorry to say that I will not get one. I have a WW2 Veteran license personalized plate with USN9 and want to keep it. When the idea was first started I emailed all the CMC's in the area to spread the word. Its really surprising that we have not reached the required goal as yet. Maybe you can get all the chapters of the FRA in Virginia involved by asking the National people to send out some sort of memo to them to advertise the plate.

Hal,

The FRA is a great place to get the word out. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck with getting large organizations like the FRA or Navy Times or the VFW or several others to take notice of any emails that I send them. I may have to start making phone calls and sending letters...maybe that will help.

If anyone has ideas of other organizations as well as contact information, I would love to hear it!

I can't believe this is such a chore...I thought it would be easy when I got involved and got the website set up. I am going to push hard this summer and hopefully get this thing done once and for all this year.
