Today in US Navy History

Postby krnl on 04 Aug 2008, 22:10

This evening, I added a database and a short script that outputs a Naval History fact for today's date. If there are 6 facts for any given day, a reload of the page (or changing to another page) is likely to select a different fact at random. Try it out! :)

One thing I found interesting while putting this database together... The item that migrated to the top of the list whether I sort the list of 1,400+ facts by day or month is the following fact:

01 April 1893 - ***Navy General Order 409 of 25 February 1893 establishes the rate of Chief Petty Officer as of this date

Months alphabetically, days numerically...either way, this fact is first since it is the earliest fact recorded (year of 1893) for the day of April first in the entire database.

This one is worth committing to memory! :clapping:
:pirate: Go Navy! :pirate:
