Selectee quits on the Mess

Postby ayespy on 28 Aug 2008, 01:40

A couple of weeks into the induction season, I recieved the below and thought this might be a good forum discuss what is happening around the world WRT the "Season." If anyone has any further info in this or any other E7 who quits, please post it as we can only learn from these incidents.

This e-mail is from a Master Chief in Seoul.

Mates,

Im really pissed right now as one of our Selectees has quit on us.
CTRC(SEL) Waller who was selected off of the RCAP has blown off our process and basically has turned his back on our legacy those of our Brothers and Sisters who have preceded us. Don't get me wrong, I have been witness to actual E-7s after the fact but this is the first time in my career that Ive had a Selectee give up/walk out during the actual process. What really irks me is the fact that since he was selected off of the RCAP, he will actual be wearing Khakis/getting paid on August 16th. I wish there was a way to go back and get his recommendation pulled because we all know that there are many real First Classes out there who would give an arm/leg to be in Waller's position.
If he can quit during our process, then he can quit out at sea, on an IA, in the field...he can quit when Sailors depend on him.

So, Im going to get with the CNFK CMC, Shawn Sarver, to debrief the Mess over here and set some time aside to debrief our Sailors because I don't want any Sailor getting the impression that they could get selected and quit on us without consequence. I will afford Waller the same courtesies as I afford any other MSgt, Gunney or SFC but that will be as far as it goes.

Please do me a favor and spread the word to the "R" branch Chief's community as I don't want him to sneak past Induction and think he can participate on the other end next season. Thanks for your ears.

I can't imagine what is going through this person's mind to make them want to quit on the men and women who are putting so much effort into making him a Chief. If he'll quit during these evolutions, then he's certain to quit on the sailors in their time of need. This man will never be a Chief Petty Officer.

My biggest personal concern is - how will this look to the rest of the selectees that he's going through with? How will this look to selectees everywhere? Might selectees elsewhere take this as an "opening door" to the possibility of quitting the Mess?

I think the Master Chief in Seoul did the right thing to alert everyone about this guy and to deal with the issue directly and immediately.

as for E-7 Waller... well... I guess since I don't have anything nice to say, I won't say anything at all.

When I was just a 2nd class I knew a guy who quit, and I heard of him being called a E-7 at the time I really didn't know the difference. As I got a little more seasoned I came to realize this guy would never be accepted as a "Chief" as it should be, this "quitter" is a bad example to the Sailors who may have looked up to him. All I can say is I'm glad I'm not stationed with this E-7!!!

I heard about this a couple weeks ago as well.......as much as this RCAP candidate is JACKED up, I think the Navy is just as jacked for not waiting until induction season to give him his anchors. The Navy is slowly taking away the everything that the CPO Mess works so hard to build before we put on the uniform. I mean hell, they've now switched the junior enlisted uniforms to Khaki's.......so much for aspiring to wear Khaki's.

Although this is a late response, I just wanted to clarify that according to the Recruiter CAP (RCAP) select message and the RCAP regulation, the selectee will not don Khakis or wear anchors until completion of "rights of passage." Even though the Sailor starts getting paid on 16 August, they will still wear the uniform of a First Class until 16 September (or the scheduled pinning date).
If you visit Guam or are already here, send me a message. I'm always up for BBC (BBQ, Beer, Cigars).
