A personal note to everyone who was impacted by the horrible events on this day in 2001. This is the first time that I have written down my personal memory of that day 7 years ago...and as I write this, it seems like just yesterday...
I was in my local Personnel Support Detachment (PSD), getting my charge book signed by the Personnelman Chief - PNC while waiting for my new E-7 military ID to come out of the printer as everything started to unravel. September 11 2001. The PNC was telling me that he had heard that a helicopter crashed into the Pentagon or something...then he went on to sign my charge book and sent me on my way with my shiny new ID card. I left PSD and walked toward my house on base, about a quarter mile away... I passed by Command Master Chief - MMCM(SS) Brooks on the way to my house. He said that he was on the way to the elementary school on base to pick up his son because "Something weird was going on". I went on to my house a half block away and turned on the TV and was met by some of the most eerie images I have ever seen. I watched for a few minutes, then went to the school to get my daughter and bring her home. I spent the rest of the day glued to the television...overcome by emotion at many times throughout the day...sadness for the lives lost and the pain felt by the people who were directly affected by all of this and anger at the hatred that caused people to perform these acts of cowardice.
Thank you to everyone who is currently serving or has served our country in support of the war on terror. God bless all of you, your families and those around you.
I, will Never Forget!
