Looking for ideas

Postby krnl on 30 Sep 2008, 08:49

All,

You all know about the CPO plates and getting the word out. I have contacted several newpapers and online news sources in addition to the numerous emails that I've sent to hundreds of CPOs in Virginia.

I found out today that one of the notes to the Virginian Pilot newspaper resulted in a quick note in the military column of the paper.

I need other ideas and names of newspapers to which I can submit information in order to get the word out more... Also, I would like to contact CMC's of large commands (Norfolk Naval Base, Aircraft Carriers, Little Creek, NAS Oceana, Washington Navy Yard, etc) with information to pass along to their respective CPO mess... so if you know any of these CMC's or can provide information on a news outlet, I'd like to hear it!

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this effort!

Rick

:enlighten: Why just target Virginia. There may be many Chiefs out there that keep VA plates on their POVs while stationed out of the state but remain VA residents.

Adding the Flagship to the list. I sent emails to the National and Virginia VFW this morning, but have not yet received a response.

Emailed the Norfolk CMC and the Little Creek CMC. I would like to get more CMC email addresses so I can contact them and ask them to forward the information to their respective CPO Mess.

Got a short story printed in the paper version of the Pilot (under "Military Briefs") in Norfolk.

I'm pretty sure I've contacted Navy Times, but no response as of yet...will try them again...

You all can feel free to pass the information on to any outlet which you think will print a short story...or post a blog somewhere about it...anything at all to get the word out!!

Rick,

Just curious, but how did you go about starting this campaign? I know some states have CPO plates, but there are quite a few that do not. Texas does not have a CPO plate, but I'd like to see one available there.

Thanks!
Alex.

Alex,

I didn't start this effort. It was started by a retired Chief in VA Beach named Armand Rubbo. He contacted a state representative here in Virginia who sponsored the bill before the General Assembly. It may be quite different in other states.
