Initiation and Training

Postby joebb3 on 03 Sep 2008, 01:52

Here is a conversation piece...

How do you feel about the deterioration of the Initiation/Transition/Induction process.

The navy reserve side of the house had an ALL STOP earlier this season... FORCE WIDE!!! The reason? One mess made selectees do push ups in a training session. That's right. Nothing more. Just push ups at a "Slug" Training. They had nothing done, so the tranining CPO put them in lean and rest 2 or 3 time for a MAXIMUM or 14 push-ups a time.

A selectee told a Master Chief, and he told someone, and so on and so on till it got to Force Wright, and he put on the breaks.

Its a sad time in the navy, when we are no longer a tool of the politicians... We have BECOME the politicians.

Political Correctness and ANY fighting force should NEVER be mixed... Too bad the testostrone level of the "Warriors" in Washington is at an historic low.

Hi Joe. Welcome to the forum! :welcome:

This is a much debated topic. The biggest problem that I see is that we have no control over the process any more. The closest thing we have to control is MCPON - and he is being slowly swayed into the ways of the "touchy-feely - oh no, don't make them do a push up because they might break a sweat".

It's not just the Navy either...it's the entire society in the United States. It's the "Everyone owes me something" - "I should not be held accountable for anything" generation. I can't stand it. The kids growing up today are the ones who will be controlling our Navy and our government in the not-so-distant future. When their time comes, they will be telling selectees to go sit in timeout instead of getting a few push ups out of them.

Amen!

Wanna hear a REALLY sad thing?

My 10 year old son came to me and told me that one day he was going to grow up to be a Chief, just like me. It was a proud moment. The sad part is that I had to tell him that we would have to see where the Navy went in the next few years before I would recommend that he serve!

:soapzip:
Don't get me wrong... I loved almost every second of my Navy career... It took High Year Tenure to get me to leave... (Brace yourself... I'm gonna use a hige cliche' here)... But THIS ain't the Navy I joined anymore. I know every generation says it... Unfortunatly... When THIS generation says it... It's true. BRAC, Political Correctness, force cuts, budget cuts, end of the cold war, the shift to the war on terrorism and the Individual Augmentee program... Did I say Political Correctness?

Sigh... Gone foreveer is the Sailor Warrior... Replaced by an ever growing population of Sea Lawyers.
:soapzip:

Sooooo.... How 'bout dem Bears!

Don't even get me started! I used to love Da Bears when I was growing up...I even have a copy of the Super Bowl Shuffle around here somewhere... I gave up on them a few years ago...maybe they'll win a few this season and make me proud to be a Bears fan again :dunno:
